Early Life

Freddie Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara, entered the world on September 5, 1946, in Stone Town, Sultanate of Zanzibar. Born into a Parsi family, young Freddie spent most of his childhood in India, where he began piano lessons at age seven. Later, he attended St. Peter’s School in Panchgani, where he formed his first band, the Hectics. It was at this school that he started calling himself “Freddie.” In 1964, following the violent revolution in Zanzibar, Freddie and his family fled to England and settled in Feltham, Middlesex.

Family Life

Freddie Mercury’s parents, Bomi and Jer Bulsara, were both Parsis from western India. The family, including Freddie’s younger sister, Kashmira, moved to Zanzibar for Bomi’s job as a cashier at the British Colonial Office. Eventually, the family had to flee Zanzibar and relocate to England due to political unrest.

Health

In the late 1980s, rumors began circulating about Freddie Mercury’s health, with many speculating that he had contracted HIV. Mercury remained private about his health, but in November 1991, he released a statement confirming that he had been diagnosed with AIDS.

Death

Tragically, Freddie Mercury’s cause of death was bronchopneumonia, a complication of HIV/AIDS. He passed away on November 24, 1991, in London, England, at the age of 45. His funeral service took place on November 27, 1991, and was attended by his family and close friends, including Elton John and the members of Queen.
