Early Life

Born on May 23, 1962, in the bustling city of New York, Karen Duffy was destined to leave her mark on the world. Raised in a devout Catholic family of Irish descent, her early life was steeped in faith and tradition. Duffy’s academic journey led her to Park Ridge High School in Park Ridge, New Jersey, where she graduated in 1979. Her pursuit of higher education took her to the University of Colorado Boulder, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy.

Family Life

In from 1994 to 1996 she dated singer Dwight Yoakam. In 1997, Duffy’s life took a beautiful turn when she tied the knot with John Lambros. Their love story was further blessed with the birth of their son, Jack “Lefty” Lambros, in 2003. The birth of their son was made possible through surrogacy, a testament to the couple’s determination and love. Duffy’s faith has remained a cornerstone of her life, as she continues to identify as a devout Catholic.

Health

In 1995, Duffy’s life took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease sarcoidosis, known as neurosarcoidosis. This condition affected her brain and spinal cord, leaving her partially paralyzed. Despite the challenges, Duffy has shown remarkable resilience, using humor and acceptance to cope with her ongoing incurable disease and constant pain. She has since become a certified hospital chaplain and a member of the Alliance for the Ethical Treatment of Pain Patients. Her journey with chronic pain has been documented in her books, providing inspiration and hope to many others dealing with similar health issues.
