Steven Andrew Thomas’s fascination with military rations began in 1997 when his uncle bought a case of Meal, Ready-to-Eat (MRE) rations from a surplus store. The first ration he tried was a ham slice meal made in 1993, which he ate cold, unaware of how to use the included flameless ration heater. Despite his deep interest in military rations, Thomas has never served in the military.
